Degree~

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

There are presently five undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The medium of instruction is mainly English.


  • B.Sc.(Mathematics)
    This programme aims at providing the undergraduate with a solid foundation in Mathematics. Many of the courses offered under this programme are in Pure Mathematics, which form the basis for other areas in the mathematical sciences.

  • B.Sc.(Industrial & Computational Mathematics)

    Many of the courses offered under this programme are connected with the computational aspects of mathematics and are geared towards application of mathematics in industry and management.


  • B.Sc.(Statistics)

    This programme aims at producing undergraduates with a strong background in Statistics. Courses offered under this programme are designed with the aim of providing the undergraduates with a balance between theoretical understanding of statistical concepts and real-world applications of these concepts.



  • B.Sc.(Actuarial and Financial Mathematics)

    This programme aims at producing undergraduates with a strong background in Mathematics and Statistics. Courses offered under this programme are designed with the aim of providing the undergraduates with a balance between theoretical understanding of statistical concepts and applications of these concepts in life assurance, general insurance and investment.



  • B.Sc.Ed.(Mathematics)

    This program is a collaboration between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education. The main objective is to produce qualified and trained Mathematics teachers for secondary schools. Courses under this program offer a combination of content and pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning Mathematics.



  • B.A.(Mathematics)

    This program has been specifically formulated for students from the Faculty of Arts, University of Malaya. It provides a comprehensive foundation in Mathematics and is quite similar to the B. Sc. (Mathematics) programme in many ways. To cater to industry, the students are also given a choice of elective courses in the Applied Mathematics and Statistics courses that have much relevance to future career paths in the banking and industrial environments
