UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

There are presently five undergraduate degree programmes offered by the Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The medium of instruction is mainly English. B.Sc.(Mathematics) This programme aims at providing the undergraduate with a solid foundation in Mathematics. Many of the courses offered under this programme are in Pure Mathematics, which form the basis for other areas in the mathematical sciences. B.Sc.(Industrial & Computational Mathematics) Many of the courses offered under this programme are connected with the computational aspects of mathematics and are geared towards application of mathematics in industry and management. B.Sc.(Statistics) This programme aims at producing undergraduates with a strong background in Statistics. Courses offered under this programme are designed with the aim of providing the undergraduates with a balance between theoretical understanding of statistical concepts and real-world applications of these concepts. B.Sc.(Actuarial and Financial Mathematics) This programme aims at producing undergraduates with a strong background in Mathematics and Statistics. Courses offered under this programme are designed with the aim of providing the undergraduates with a balance between theoretical understanding of statistical concepts and applications of these concepts in life assurance, general insurance and investment. B.Sc.Ed.(Mathematics) This program is a collaboration between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Education. The main objective is to produce qualified and trained Mathematics teachers for secondary schools. Courses under this program offer a combination of content and pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning Mathematics. B.A.(Mathematics) This program has been specifically formulated for students from the Faculty of Arts, University of Malaya. It provides a comprehensive foundation in Mathematics and is quite similar to the B. Sc. (Mathematics) programme in many ways.
